Frequently Asked Questions

  • Functional medicine is a personalized approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of symptoms or illness. It takes into account your unique genetics, lifestyle, and environment to create a treatment plan tailored specifically to you. Rather than just managing symptoms, functional medicine aims to restore balance and promote long-term health, working in partnership with you to support your healing journey.

  • Functional medicine differs from conventional medicine in that it focuses on finding and addressing the root causes of health issues, rather than just treating symptoms. While conventional medicine typically diagnoses and manages symptoms, functional medicine takes a holistic approach that looks at the whole person—considering factors like genetics, lifestyle, and environment. It also emphasizes prevention and overall wellness, aiming to avoid illness before it starts, rather than reacting once disease has developed.

    • Functional medicine is not covered by insurance because it focuses on personalized, in-depth care that includes extensive testing and longer consultations. Most insurance plans cover symptom-based treatments but don’t typically support the root cause approach used in functional medicine, which includes lifestyle changes and long-term wellness strategies. By not accepting insurance, we can spend more time with you and create a treatment plan that’s truly tailored to your needs, without restrictions.

    • We will provide you with a Superbill following your visit that you can use to request reimbursement from your insurance provider.  Each insurance company is different so we recommend you outreach them before your visit if you are looking to have a portion of the visit reimbursed.

    • While we do not accept insurance, we do accept HSA/FSA payments

  • We require a 48 hour notice for all patient appointment cancellations/reschedules.

  • For streamlined and secure communication, we ask that all communication with your provider go through the Power2Patient portal where you will also see office notes, lab results, and receipts for insurance reimbursement.

  • We are based out of Shamong, NJ currently as a telehealth practice with coverage in NJ, CT, and FL and hoping to expand in the near future.
